98 was Great
If you were lucky enough to train in a commercial gym back in 98 you were rocking to the tunes of Chumbawamba, Spice Girls, Alantis Morissette, Madonna and Jennifer Page.
These tunes were always good for sucking away 1-2 reps off each set and 15% off all max effort movements but you strained through it so you could get home in time to watch Dharma & Greg, The Nanny and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
There were also those of us who trained in hidden storage units, hardcore gyms, warehouses, basements and wherever else you could stick a mono lift and 10-15 meatheads. We were listening to the same AC/DC CD's that were so over played they needed to be washed with soap and water and then dried off with the cleanest T-shirt you could find (not as easy as you think).
Every training session in these aggression infested gyms lead to elite totals and huge gains. When your training was over you were rewarded with a drive home that included an insane lower back pump that forced you to set your seat so far back you could barely see the road. Finally after making it home we would order some pizza's and watch The Jerry Springer Show, NYPD Blue and Jag.
Time passes and lifts go up but that same AC/DC CD still has it's home in every hardcore gym and those people who trained in commercial gyms back then haven't seen a weight in the past 12 years.
We are a rare breed!
This has nothing to do with this shirt but does leave one very important question.
Who was your favorite spice girl?
