Yessis: Many runners have bought better shoes or spent longer hours on the track trying to improve, only to end up frustrated with back and leg pain. But the secret to improving is simple - your stride is only as good as your physical abilities allow. In explosive running, Dr Michael Yessis, a respected sports fitness expert, demonstrates the method he has used successfully with thousands of runners. His methods consist of three overlapping steps all runners should go through in order to improve their performance and make the transition to effective, efficient, and faster running.
Dr.Yessis:
I study sport and exercise science in germany and would like to point out that alot of what you stand for, especially special strength preparation, is a very important concept over here. Alot of times when I read works from Schmidtbleicher and Weineck and other Professors / Coaches it reminds me of what you always say. I read alot of your books and think that you did a great job in presenting the concepts in an easy to understand way. The sections on special strength exercises and periodization are especially good. The technique sections are unique - I have never read a more easy to understand text on running technique as explosive running. The specialized exercises with tubing might look a little strange to a hardcore weight trainer but I can only say that I have tried them and they are very effective. You seem to be one of the few american authors who really care about special strength training - I have read alot of others but I feel that they are missing important points that you mention.
